Never Steal a Waiter’s Tips! by waiter | Jan 13, 2009 | Uncategorized | 26 comments Man, those sushi waiters in France are vicious! 26 Comments mr lim on January 13, 2009 at 1:44 pm Moral of the story? Reply The Barman on January 13, 2009 at 1:54 pm I have seen this happen. Not in France and not at a sushi bar, a guest from one table stole the tip from another as he was leaving. We chased the culprit for several blocks and literally scared the piss out of him when we threatened to call the police. Reply lennysgurl on January 13, 2009 at 1:57 pm that’s crazy. I’ve had a few tips stolen, but never my entire day’s earnings. really makes one angry tho. Reply Purple Dino Type on January 13, 2009 at 2:04 pm As someone who once worked for tips…I can completely understand their outrage. Reply Zeph on January 13, 2009 at 2:24 pm Ew you literally scared the piss out of him? Reply DABCT on January 13, 2009 at 2:37 pm So I cant spell Guido. Reply Voy on January 13, 2009 at 2:49 pm As far as I know in France there’s a service charge added to the bill automatically, so it’s not really the same as if one did it in the US or whereever else waiters get most of their wage from tips. Reply DiamondDaveeO on January 13, 2009 at 3:05 pm The waiters were arrested? I hope this was just a formallity during the investigation. The working stiffs deserve a freaking ticker tape parade down Main Street complete with a key to the city and a brass band for Criss-sakes! It’s great to see a couple of parasitic scumbags get there just rewards for once. Hats off to the “Sushi Seven”!! Reply The Barman on January 13, 2009 at 4:40 pm Yeah he was pathetic. Reply ms kize on January 13, 2009 at 10:26 pm Funny…don’t f*** with our hard earned money! Reply Tor on January 14, 2009 at 12:47 am I agree with DiamondDavee. Maybe they shouldn’t have been QUITE so vicious, but they had every right. If they suffer penalties because of this, I’m gonna be ticked. I mean, here in Texas, you’re allowed to shoot people just for trespassing. These guys were holding the waiters at gunpoint and demanding money! Doesn’t make sense for the waiters to have to pay. Reply Eva on January 14, 2009 at 2:39 am I think it depends on what happened exactly. Did they all jump on him and just stab him with intent to kill? The article makes it sound like there was a giant melee and that one guy may just have taken too many blows. It only takes one stab to kill if the stab is in the right place and goes deep. If there is argument for self defense, the waiters might get off, but if it went well beyond self defense, that will not be as easy to call. -Eva Reply Mark on January 14, 2009 at 2:48 am The guy had a gun and the waiters had knives. Was Raiders of the Lost Ark never released in France? Reply laephar on January 14, 2009 at 1:29 pm Tor wrote on 01/14/09 at 12:47 am : I agree with DiamondDavee. IF U BAD AND SELFISH U GO TO HELL, IF UR GOOD AND GIVING U GO TO HEAVEN, HOW ABOUT IF UR YOUNG AND U DIE OF CANCER, DO U AUTOMATICALLY GO TO HEAVEN, BUT WAT IF U WERE BAD AND SELFISH ALSO, THEN WHERE THE FUK WOULD U GO, WAT IF U WERE BAD, THEN TURNED GOOD, WHERE WOULD U GO AFTER U DIE? IT COULD GO EITHER WAY IN SO MANY WAYS, IF U WERE BAD, DO U GET REINCARNATED AS A COCKROACH? THAT WOULD SUK, ALOT OF TIMES I WISH I WASNT EVEN BORN, CUZ LIFE IS SO FUKKKKED UP SOMETIMES, I DONT EVEN LIKE GETTTING UP MOST OF THE TIME NIGGGGGA, EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE SUCH A CHORE, EVEN EATING HAS BECOME MUNDANE, AND WHEN U WATCH THE NEWS, ALL U HEAR ABOUT IS BAD NEWS AND ABOUT ALL THE FUKKKKED UP SHIET IN THE WORLD, ALL THE GREED AND HATRED, SURE THIS IS GOOD ALSO, BUT EVIL SEEMS TO BE SO MUCH MORE OUT THERE, LOOK AT THE US, HOW RICH IT IS, AND THEN U LOOK AT AFRICA AND JUST HOT POOR AND STARVING ALL THE PEOPLE ARE, THEN U HEAR ABOUT BERNIE MADOFF AND HOW HE LOST 50 BILLION DOLLARS OF RICH PEOPLES MONEY, THEN U SEE BUMS ON THE STREET EATING OUT OF THE TRASH CAN, THEN U EAT AT BUFFETS WHERE THERE IS ENDLESS FOOD, AND THEN U SEE IMAGES OF PEOPLE DYING IN AFRICA OF STARVATION, LIFE I SO FUKKKED UP IN HOW RANDOM AND UNFAIR IT IS, ALOT OF TIMES THERE SEEMS LIKE THERES NO RHYME OR REASON, BUT THEN AT THE SAME TIME U THINK THERE MUST BE A GOD, I MEAN WHO COULD HAVE CREATED NATURE, THE WONDERS OPF THE UNIVERSE, THE COMPLEXT HUMAN BODY, THE CREATION OF ART AND MUSIC, SO MANY THINGS IN THE WORLD APPREAR TO BE A MIRACLE TO ME, SOMETHING THAT COULD NOT BE MAN MADE, SO IN THE END , I THINK THERE WAS A GOD THAT CREATED EVERYTHING, BUT I FEEL LIKE HE DIED, RIGHT AFTER HE CREATED THE UNIVERESE, HE CREATED US, THEN JUST DESERTED US, WHERE DO WE GO TO AFTER WE DIE? I HAVE NO IDEA, A BIG PART OF ME WISHES THAT IT WOULD JUST BE ALL OVER, NO MORE THOUGHTS , NO MORE WORRIES, NO MORE FEELINGS, I DONT CARE ABOUT HEAVEN, THAT WOULD BE HEAVEN TO ME, BUT THEN A BIG PART OF ME THINKS THERE MUST BE SOME KIND OF JUDGEMENT ON HUMAN SOULS, IT WOULD BE UNFAIR IF ALL PEOPLE HAD THE SAME FATE, PEOPLE ARE SO DIFFERENT, ESEPCIALLY GOOD PEOPLE AND BAD PEOPLE, IF EVERYONE HAD THE SAME FATE, IT WOULD DEFINITELY BE UNFAIR, BUT AS EVERYONE ALREADY KNOS LIFE IS UNFAIR Reply Dr. Electro on January 14, 2009 at 7:11 pm Who is that Kobe_Whatthehellever guy going on about? He claims to be 26 years old but shouts in all caps with the grammar and spellling skills of a nine year old with ADHD. What happened ? Did he miss his ritalin today? Anyway, it really sucks to see a whole day’s work get stolen from under your nose. I don’t know if it’s worth killing for but it certainly isn’t worth going to jail for. That said, I would insist on at least hurting the thieves before calling the gendarmerie. Interesting story, Steve. Thanks for sharing it with us. Just don’t try that while working as a barista. I’m too far away to come bail you out of jail 🙂 Reply Lisa Lee on January 14, 2009 at 9:13 pm I think it’s time people defend themselves and their rights after being bullied. It seems to me that the law is kinder to criminals. They go to jail, come out and do what they do all over again. Does anyone ever think of the victims? I am sorry one of the robbers got mortally injured but I would say its self defense and its just their hard earned money. It doesn’t make killing a person right but it also doesn’t mean its wrong to fight for yourself and your rights… Sigh~ Reply kcbelles on January 16, 2009 at 3:32 pm Totally feel for the waiters – I agree one should be able to defend oneself and property. It’s just so easy for criminals to take something that does not belong to them. One of my part-time jobs is a restroom attendant in a local night club – I learned the hard way not to turn my back on my tip jar. Third night out, while I ran some glasses out to the bar, someone helped themselves to my tips, my lip glosses and my pack of cigerettes I had out for customers. I was spitting nails – it was very hard to put a good face on to be pleasant for incoming customers. I can see where the urge to stab someone can be real strong. Reply MANFRED on January 20, 2009 at 9:30 am Мне кажется это не совсем точно. На эту тему имеется несколько мнений. И у каждого человека со своим мировоззрением свое мнение. Reply hallsigns on January 20, 2009 at 10:57 pm you should try to interview some of the waitstaff or management of this sushi place for your next book Reply Old Sarge on January 27, 2009 at 6:47 pm Let’s see if I got this right: a pair of dirtbags come into a restaurant to commit a robbery, armed with a pistol and a stun gun. One of the robbers is killed by a member of the restaurant staff. Now, the staff have been arrested for killing the robber. Is self-defense and resistance to robbery as illegal in France as it is in England? Perhaps it is because I am an American – a well-armed American – that I cannot comprehend the subtle nuances of Continental justice. Reply science of identity on January 30, 2009 at 3:30 am Stealing tips is low, man! If you’re going to steal, at least have a bit of decency to leave the tips for the people who’re working really hard.
