I’ve actually read that in some “how to succeed in business” book; if you want to take the measure of a person you’re thinking of doing business with, go out to lunch with him and see how he treats the waitstaff.
This is how I decide on a second date or not. I have even snuck out of a restaurants back door in the kitchen because I was mortified at how my date was treating the server.
Deb- I watched how my X husband treated his mother (very good). And according to her other children, she would never win Mom of the Year. However, in his case, it wasn’t all telling. A decade later a counselor tells him that he actually has a deep seated hatred for women (which I could attest to) Apparently, there’s room remaining for ‘more to the story’.

I also take note of how a man treats his mother. This is a sure indication of how he will treat you, except worse.
